Youth Voices for Development (YOVODE)

Youth Voices for Development – YOVODE is an emerging community leaders’ program specially designed for young people 19-24 years of age from across Uganda focused on youth development and civic engagement. The program fostered youth local leadership, inclusion and effective participation in decision making processes at local level. It instilled greater self-esteem and confidence for active participation of young people in their own development and that of their communities. Selected youth were engaged in a series of activities including:

  • Youth leadership trainings with a focus on effective participation & Community reporting skills.
  • Radio talk shows and discussions on youth and leadership
  • Community Dialogues on leadership and development
  • Documentation of Community reports on issues of concern

The program that kicked off in Jinja and Mbale districts in 2021, scaled to Tororo and Soroti districts with support from the US Mission in Uganda. By the end of the intervention, the project had trained 100 emerging community leaders.
