The Coalition of Grassroots Media and Information Literacy Organizations in Uganda (COGMIL-Uganda) is a pivotal initiative dedicated to fostering knowledge, participatory democracy, and community empowerment. Comprising grassroots media organizations, COGMIL-Uganda champions Media and Information Literacy (MIL) as a vital strategy to enhance critical thinking and informed participation in society. Recognizing the global emphasis on MIL as a tool for development, the coalition actively engages with youth, women, and marginalized communities, ensuring their voices are integral to the national development agenda. Key initiatives include enhancing networking and collaboration among local organizations, facilitating knowledge sharing and best practices, and advocating for policies that address the unique needs of Media and Information Literacy actors. Amid the rising tide of misinformation and digital transformation in general, COGMIL-Uganda aims to rebuild trust in media and promote a more informed and digitally literate citizenry. By engaging with government and development partners, the coalition seeks to increase investment in grassroots MIL efforts, thereby strengthening civic engagement and community development.

The coalition is committed to transparent leadership, digital rights, and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities, particularly for youth and women. Through training, community mobilization, and advocacy, COGMIL-Uganda strives to create a more inclusive and empowered society, driving progress towards sustainable development goals and a digital future for all Ugandans.
