Please introduce yourself to your audience and tell them about your YouTube channel.
Hello everyone, my name is Kulubya Moses; I work with Step FM radio as a reporter, an anchor, and talk show host. I run a YouTube channel in the names of Kulubya Media Updates, and on this channel, I update, inform, entertain, and educate on pertinent issues. I kindly request you to subscribe to this channel, like, comment, and share. I am also open to guidance or advice on how things should be done. I am a work in progress.
What motivated you to start a YouTube channel?
As a person who spends most of my time in the field and in the community, there is some content I come across that may never get published or broadcast on air.
Secondly, there’s some information I feel should be consumed by people who are never tuned to radio yet it can be important if it reaches them through other platforms like my YouTube channel.
Thirdly, in this digital era, we need to be versatile, flexible and adapt to digital communication and platforms. I learnt this from my recent training with DiG-Y hub.
To what extent did your video editing training with DiG-Y Hub contribute to your zeal to start a YouTube Channel?
Well, it motivated me to push more for my channel. I had the channel before the training but it was basically dormant and abandoned. The training with DiG-Y hub equipped me with the right skills I needed. It gave me a deeper appreciation of going digital with my work and motivated me to put skill to practice.
Anything you found interesting about the training? What was your biggest highlight from the training?
Learning how to edit videos in the shortest time possible was the game changer. While it looked hard in the beginning I took something home each day. The trainers were hands-on and made sure I understood every step.
Can you describe the skills you learnt during the training and the editing programs or apps you are able to use now?
My biggest interest was in learning how to edit videos and I majorly focused on that. I can ably use both CapCut and KineMaster.
We understand you also did graphics designing. How are you using the skills acquired? What designing programs do you use for your work?
For graphics, I can use Canva because I also designed my YouTube channel logo using Canva. I can design almost anything with Canva, from business cards, flyers, posters, etc.
Interesting! How does it feel to be your own designer? Your own producer?
I feel good. I cut costs and it’s time convenient. To hire someone to design a simple logo could cost you more than UGX 20,000 but I don’t have to spend that anymore. Instead I plan to use my acquired skills to earn some extra bucks, while growing my YouTube channel at the same.
If you were to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Flexible , Quick learner, Determined
What’s your advice to the youth of today?
My advice to youth is as follows:
- Let them create their own paths
- Imitate and create
- Seek knowledge
- Try new things for their betterment
- Seek guidance
- Appreciate time
- Treasure life and appreciate it
- Expect nothing from nothing
- Take risks and accept the outcomes
- They should surround themselves with a small, important circle than a big parasitical circle.
